Last seen together in Dr Who David Tennant and Catherine Tate will play opposite each other as Beatrice and Benedick in a new production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado about Nothing. While I enjoy the popular culture of the Dr Who series I’m excited to see the two together in something considered high culture. Though not a huge Shakespeare fan I do enjoy going to the theatre and think this could be something a little bit special.

Trained as a classical actor David Tennant is better known for his roles on television. I particularly enjoyed watching him as the moody Scottish police officer in the BBC musical drama Blackpool and in his portrayal of Casanova in the Russell T Davies drama.  I would love to see what he can do on the stage as with a host of acting credits for the Royal Shakespeare Company to his name Tennant has proved himself a popular and accomplished actor. His 2008 performance as Hamlet was highly acclaimed and moved from Stratford to London selling out in just three hours. He even has seat named after him in the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

Now the Ex-Doctor returns to the stage with his friend and Dr Who colleague the award winning Catherine Tate. If the rapport they had in the TV series is anything to go by then this is sure to be a performance worth seeing. I might even combine the two paying a visit to the Dr Who exhibition at Olympia for the pop culture and then going high brow with a trip to the theatre. Much Ado about Nothing opens at the Wyndham theatre at the end of May.

So will you be experiencing the magic of the theatre? Will the relationship transfer to stage well. Let us know if you have seen them on stage before – was it good?
